We celebrated Red Ribbon Week by dressing up each day.

Thank you to Jonah Ingram for the yummy gummy worms!

Mellow Monday

We read Stellaluna and compared bats with birds.
We also learned about the parts of a bat and labeled the bat to create a diagram.

We read this silly book and worked on retelling the parts.

We worked in guided reading groups this week  We worked on letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words, and reading as we pointed to each word.  Students got to use the witch pointers to help them point to words.

Thank you to 6th graders Gray Spence and Alex Hicks for coming to our classroom to read to us!

We read The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle and acted out the parts with each character.

Peek at the Week

We celebrated the 50th day of Kindergarten in 50's fashion!

We had a Kindergarten Sock Hop as we danced to 50's music in our socks.

Bubble Blowing

We enjoyed root beer floats with Mrs. Craighead's class.

We looked at toys from the 1950's and talked about which toys are still played with today.  We learned that Mr. Potato head was invented in 1954 and he did not have a body.  Kids had to use a real potato to make him.

We welcomed Kellie Smith to our class on Monday!  We now have a class of 22 amazing kindergarteners!
Fresh mulch was delivered to our playground this week!

We played "Guess the Missing Number" with a partner.

Students worked hard at work during workstations.

Students will begin meeting with me in small guided reading groups next week.

Students became pumpkin experts as they learned all about the life cycle of a pumpkin and did many experiments with our class pumpkin.  We gave our pumpkin a bubble bath to see if it would sink of float.  It floated!

Pumpkin Investigation
Students enjoyed seeing Mrs. Holman's carved pumpkin pictures.

We cleaned out our class pumpkin and counted all of the seeds by putting them in groups of 10.  It had 575 seeds!

We are looking forward to our field trip to Sinkland Farms Pumpkin Patch on Friday!

Peek at the Week

We enjoyed workstations around the room.  We now have 4 ipads that we get to use in stations! This week students practiced writing their Popcorn Words on them.

We had Station #3 Check Firefighters visit us at Check Elementary School.  They reminded us to check the batteries in our smoke detectors and taught us to get out and stay out if there is ever a fire!  We made them a thank you card to thank them for keeping our community safe.

Students have been learning how to do concept sorts using pictures. These sorts will better prepare students for the letter and sound sorts that we will do next.

We have had lots of fun playing Letter Bingo, listening to Mrs. Underwood read Junie B. Jones, singing our silly "Tooty Ta" song, and reading books on the rug.

We went on a nature walk scavenger hunt to search for living and nonliving things around our schoolyard.  We drew the things that we found as we sorted them into 2 groups- living and nonliving.

Lucky our class rabbit has had her ears perked up as she listens to students read to her.

We used our morning message to look at spaces between letters and words.  We leave spaghetti noodle spaces in between letters and we use meatball spaces in between words.  This will help us space out our writing and point to words correctly when we are reading.
